The Maoists have called for a forty eight hours bandh in 5 states from 30th of June. These states are Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Bihar. This is the 5th forty eight hours bandh being observed in Jharkhand this year.
The bandh was called soon after the Maoists killed a local congress leader, Bardhan Kachhu, in Garhwa district of Jharkhand. Bardhan Kachhu was the tribal leader of that locality. He was kidnapped in the midnight from the Barkol village and was finally shot dead on Wednesday morning. He was forty five years old.
An Assistant Sub Inspector, Ajay Gupta, was also badly injured in Jhargram in Midnapore district also when the Maoists fired at a patrolling party in the Birihari forest area. Ajay Gupta was immediately rushed to Midnapore Medical College Hospital where he is fighting with his death.
To avoid any attack on the trains again the officials have diverted Ranchi-Delhi Swarna Jayanti Express, Ranchi-Varanasi inter-city and Sambalpur-Varanasi inter-city through Gomo-Gaya-Mughalsarai route. Also it has been ordered that during night all the trains will run at a maximum speed of 65 kilometers per hour through the Maoists areas.
In all these five states the Maoist prone areas have been affected by the strike. In the Maoist prone are as in West Bengal, the surface transport like buses, cars and others are not plying in the streets. In Orissa some of the State buses have been suspended.
