'80 percent net-cafe users are students' says a report by Pune Police

Recently, Pune Police has conducted a survey in order to find out the social problem of school and college student and the stunning reason has come forward citing that cyber cafes are visited by school and college students for at least four hours a day.

Speaking to the media persons MR Ashok Dhiware, Commissioner of Police, said that the Pune Police surveyed around 457 cafes out of 550 in the city and found that around 1,088 students visit these cafes between 12 PM to 4 PM for chatting browsing and surfing purposes. He further added that the report showed that out of 1,088 visitors, 630 were repeaters and spent about four to five hours a day presumably bunking schools and colleges.

While addressing the press conference, Mr Dhiware added that if students were visiting cyber cafes for learning subject matters or some other academic reason then there were no problems, however, he was anxious that their studies would get affected if they visited cafes for fruitful reasons.

Mr Dhiware appealed to the parents to counsel their children to focus on studies, in case they showed signs of being addicted to the internet. Dhiware said that the police would consult experts on the issue and would find out the ways to resolve the problems being faced by youngsters (by help of psychologists and sociologists).

Mr Dhiware also appealed to the non-governmental organizations to extent help by counselling youngsters.
