Just a day after the filing of FIR against the accused in Adarsh Society Scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted raids at the residences of the three of the 12 accused in the scam.
As per report of the sources, CBI raided the premises of RC Thakur, who is the chief promoter of the society and a former Defence Estates officer; Brigadier (retired) M M Wanchu, President of Adarsh Society, and Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Ex Congress MLC and Co-Promoter of Adarsh Society.
Even, the office of the Adarsh society located in posh Colaba was among the places raided across Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur and even Madhubani in Bihar.
Sources have reported that during the raids incriminating documents were seized. Moreover, files, laptops and computer hard disks have been seized by the officials at various places where the raids were conducted.
CBI had named 13 people, including Chavan, in the FIR. Other people named in the FIR include retired army men, defence officials and bureaucrats, as well as promoters of the controversial building.
The FIR has been filed under Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code for forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The CBI registered yesterday a case against 13 retired army officials in connection with the Adarsh housing society scam. The case was registered after the CBI, last week, received flak from the Bombay High Court for its slow probe in the case.
