AMD unveils new fusion chip

AMD, the giant among the chip makers, has recently rolled out its new fusion chip, which has been designed to handle multi-core processors and high-end graphics. The incredibly advanced ‘Fusion’ processor merges both graphics card (GPU) and microprocessor (CPU) on a single chip.

The newly debuted fusion chipset family, uses accelerated processing unit, has been designed in different ranges, which can be used by different range of products- from mobile handsets to computers.

Speaking to the media persons, Mr Ravi Swaminathan, AMD India Managing Director and Regional Vice President (Sales and Marketing), said that AMD fusion would eliminate the requirement for consumer to choose between power and performance. Mr Ravi further added that the new AMD fusion would also allow the PC makers to offer exciting new form factors on robust computing platform.

Expectedly, about a dozen of PC makers, like HP, Sony, Dell, Lenevo, Toshiba, MSI and Asus, will launch their new system based on AMD Fusion chipset in India by June 2011 (pricing details are not yet known).

In her statement, Ms Manju Hegde, AMD Corporation Vice President, Fusion Experience Programme, said that through Fusion, AMD was targeting the ‘sweet spot’ for accelerated high definition experiences across the notebooks, desktops and HD netbooks.

As per report of the source, the team of 90 members from AMD’s Research and Development, Hyderabad has played a significant role in the design and development of these new fusion microprocessors.
