Australia saw its first defeat by Pakistan in test cricket after 13 years. This defeat not only shattered their confidence but also questioned their ability. It is first time that Australia slipped to 4th position in test ranking under the captainship of skipper Ricky Ponting.
Today, Pakistani batsmen commuted on the ground to score the required 40 runs and mark their win in a heroic way. However, Australia bounced back from nowhere and took early 4 wickets and made Pakistani batsmen sweat for every single run.
In the very second over of the match Azhar became the prey of Doug Bollinger who managed to get an inside edge of his bat. After Azhar returned to the pavilion Pakistan took an overcautious approach but can’t help poor shot selection and indecisive foot movement and Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal stumbled out cheaply before Umar Gul finally hit the winning run.
The much awaited win for Pakistan came after 13 years and finally ended the drought. Hats off to victorious start of Salman butt as Captain.
He took the in charge of captain after Shahid Afridi rendered himself inappropriate for test captaincy following Australia’s win in the first test at Lord’s. The first 65 minutes of the match had made him very anxious and he sat fingers crossed to see his team win.
Salman Butt told that ‘It is a most coveted win but not everything. We should pick ourselves strongly from here. I am certain if we give guys more time we can become a world-beating side in Test matches’.
Though Ponting looked disappointed he said that’ ‘I don’t think it will do too much to dent our confidence. A defeat in the game makes you work hard and improve. I would like to take this as positive to overcome our loopholes’.
