The second T20 match played between Australia and England at MCG brought back some smiles on the face of Aussies as they successfully squared the series 1-1 by defeating England in the thriller by 4 runs at MCG on 14th January.
It was definitely relieving moment for the Australian as they broke their run of five defeats today. Earlier today, Australia decided to bat first after winning the toss and was off to a good start as they managed 50 runs of the first five overs with only 1 wicket at loss.
However, England bowlers almost turned the tide against the Australian side as at one stage Australia was lingering at 80 for the loss of 5 wickets in 12 overs. The Australia innings was built around a violent knock from the Victorian Aaron Finch, whose unbeaten 53 in front of his home crowd occupied only 33 balls and included two sixes and four fours and led Australia to settle at 147.
A target of 148 looked well within England’s grasp but boundaries were hard to come by on such a large ground, and the damp conditions also made it difficult to penetrate the MCG outfield.
The England innings got off to a fine start, as Ian Bell continued his solid form and put on 60 for the first wicket with Steve Davies. Kevin and Collingwood went in cheap and lower orders were left with plenty to do.
Collingwood calls plenty of dot balls the reason for getting limited by Australian bowlers on 143.
Aaron Finch was named man of the match – it was his testosterone-felled half-century that revived the Australian innings.
