Bihar Election Results: Leading JD(U)-BJP all set for a landslide win

The final results for some of the polling constituencies are already out and the leading JD(U)-BJP has already declared winner in 10 constituencies and the number is expected to rise and hit a landslide win in the Bihar Assembly election results 2010.

The Election Commission of India, earlier decided to hold the Bihar Assembly polls in 6 phases, starting from Oct 21 to Nov 20, 2010. The counting of the votes began today morning and within a few hours time, JD(U)-BJP was already leading in various constituencies.

Update 1: In the latest update, the Nitish Kumar led NDA alliance has won 14 seats. This is out of the 17 seats in the Bihar Election results declared so far.

Update 2: The JD(U) member Md Sarfuddin has won in the Sheohar constituency, beating rival from BSP, Pratima Devi. In Bihar Sharif constituency also, the JD(U) member Sunil Kumar has won defeating the rival Afrin Sultana from RJD.

JD-U-BJP sweeps Bihar

Patna, Nov 24 (IBNS) The ruling Janata Dal-United-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance is poised for retaining power as it swept through Bihar on Wednesday taking runaway lead over opponents in most of the Assembly seats with the results and counting trend pointing to a two-third majority.

Of the total 243 seats, the Nitish Kumar-led alliance was ahead in at least 183 seats, besides already winning 16.

While the JD-U has so far annexed six seats, 10 went to the BJP.

The main rivals, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-Lok Janshakti Party(LJP) alliance of Laloo Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan was ahead only in 29 seats and failed to open account so far.

The Congress was leading in seven seats while others were ahead in the rest.

Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, constesting as RJD candidate from Raghopur and Sonepur, were trailing in both the constituencies.

The ruling coalition, marked a much better performance than in 2005 when it bagged a total of 143 seats, including 88 of the JD(U).

Bihar witnessed a staggered six-phase elections from Oct 21 to Nov 20.

The polls were largely peaceful.
