Nov 1 (FLS): On Sunday, the women wing activists of Bhartiya Janata Party held a demonstration against author and activist Arundhati Roy outside her residence in Delhi around 10:30 am.
It has been reported that more that hundred women activists of BJP, led by the Delhi unit Mahila Morcha (women wing of BJP) Chief Shikha Roy, held a strong demonstration and shouted slogans ‘take your statement back, leave India otherwise’, against Arundhati Roy for her recent statement made in favour of Kashmir’s freedom.
Speaking to the media persons, a police officer said that they quickly rushed towards the Arundhati’s residence as they got the phone call about the protest, however, they did not find any activity at the reported site.
The officer further said that police could not confirm anybody’s implication behind the protest.
On the other hand, a BJP leader, Meenakshi Lekhi said that they coordinated a peaceful protest outside the Roy’s residence and they demanded to take her statement (regarding Kashmir issue) back. She further added that if she did not take her statement back then police should have registered a complaint against her.
Smriti Irani, a senior BJP leader said that demonstration was held against the anti India speech by Ms Roy and government idleness regarding the issue. Accusing Ms Roy for inappropriate use of ‘freedom of expression’ she said that freedom of expression could not be used as a blank cheque.
Defending herself Roy said that she only spoke what majority of people of Kashmir had been reciting everyday for years.
