Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, state owned telecom service provider has turned to be the first telecom company to unveil its mobile services at the Holy Amarnath cave and also on two routes of the amaranth yatra.
Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Telecom unveiled the new mobile services at the cave and also made the first call from the cave service outlet to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, NN Vohra.
BSNL has constructed its network towers at eleven places at Amarnath which include Baltal-I, Baltal-II, Baltal Base Camp, Noonwan, Lakipora, Betab Valley, Domail, Sangam/Holi Cave, Panchtarni, Chandanwari and Chandanwari Base Camp.
A BSNL official said in a statement that “The yatra route, thus far not served by any telecom operator, will enjoy telecom services for the first time”.
Sachin Pilot showered his thankful words to Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and also the state administration for granting the necessary support in developing such a helpful service to many. He also expressed his gratitude to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for their supportive efforts and further said that BSNL have proved its best of providing network connectivity to the shrine, which is located at a height of 13,500 feet.
The mobile service henceforth will be very useful to the pilgrims who visit the shrine every year, especially old people who would like to stay connected to their families while going inline with the yatra.
BSNL mobile network connectivity will also be helpful to the local residents here thereby enabling them to stay in touch with each other and facilitate people living in and visiting the area.
