Ending the period of silence, CVC, P J Thomas finally defended himself for his appointment as the Central Vigilance Commission as he filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court.
As per report of the sources, in the affidavit, the CVC said that there was no sanction to prosecute him in the Palmolein import case. He further said that media was tarnishing his image and it was him only who was the senior most bureaucrats to be considered for the CVC’s post.
He also dismissed the questions that are being raised on his personal uprightness and reiterated the fact that he was clean and there was no question of his integrity.
Pointing on the fact that that his name was cleared by the then CVC, he added that nine other officials named in the Palmolein case were cleared by the then CVC.
Thomas further said his was not the only case when an honest officer got Central empanelment pending a charge sheet.
In the affidavit filed earlier in the apex court, he blamed politics for the controversy surrounding his appointment as chief of Vigilance body. Similarly, in today’s affidavit too he claimed that he has been nothing but a victim of politics in Kerala.
Yesterday, Chidambaram held a press conference in which he conceded that Thomas’ case was discussed in detail during the election meeting, following which Sushma has announced that she will not file the affidavit.
