In a major breakthrough, Tibetan political leader Dalai Lama announced relinquishment of his post of political leader of the Tibetan government in exile on Thursday 10th March on his website.
S per report of the sources, in a statement on his website, he wrote that Tibetans needed a leader who was elected freely by the people of Tibet and who he could devolve the power. He further wrote that the time had come to bring this into effect and expressed his willingness to work with the government in exile to begin the process of ceding the authority.
Interestingly, the announcement falls on the 52nd anniversary of Tibetan uprising and Dalai Lama’s escape to India.
Lama also mentioned that he had long seen himself as ‘semi retired’ from the leadership with an elected Prime Minister of Tibet residing in Dharamsala. However, he clearly mentioned that he was in no mood of giving up his Tibet’s spiritual leader post.
As per report of the sources, Dalai Lama used remarks which will be delivered later today in India to call for change in China.
In the year 1959, Dalai Lama had fled from China after a mass uprising against Chinese rule and lives in exile in India and advocates autonomy for Tibet which is in China.
Though the announcement is not a surprise, the fact that it comes now, will surely pinch Beijing.
