Well this is not the first time similar cases came up in the local newspaper in my city. A very similar case happened about a year ago or so as well. But that time, it was only one lady. This time, it’s  a mother-daughter duo.

The news goes like this:

A lady in her late 40’s and her daughter were caught dancing naked in the midnight by Local Welfare Association a yesterday night. The local people claimed that the mother-daughter duo were performing some kind of “devil worship” which was suppose to bring bad luck to the people of the area. According to the local people, the mother-daughter duo also agreed to this claim and they said they were indeed performing a secret ritual. Although they didn’t agree to the accusation that they were trying to bring bad luck to the locality.

It is reported that the local police has intervened into the matter and the two are now in police custody. The police said it was for their own safety and they will be soon released.

Well, I don’t remember what exactly happened to the case that happen last year. I do remember that the lady was beaten up severely by the local people. Anyway, this time I will report the outcome here. So, do check back.

Loan and personal finance decisions

This is a topic I have always been confused with. When I took my Bike, I kept on thinking whether I should buy the Bike directly paying full cash or should I get a loan and pay the EMI. Since I have money at that time, I could easily pay the full price. But if took a loan, that can be used to reduce my tax amount and also I would be having the money to be used for other purposes. Anyway, I paid in full and took the bike. But the important thing is, I still can’t decide which option I should choose in such a situation.

Well, these days I have started planning to buy a car. Of course I am planning for a cheaper one but I really need some advice on whether I should get it in EMI or should I save money every month and buy it when I the full amount in cash. I suppose the deciding factor would be how much I have and how much I earn every month. The good part about this story is that, many banks are ready to give the loan now a days and I can take it anytime I want since this will be my first bank loan as well. I am in no debt and that’s why bank people seem to be happy to welcome my loan request. Some banks are even coming up with new lower rates for company employees and I think it’s okay to take these loans.

The only reason I am confused with is the extra amount I am going to pay when I take a bank loan. Most local bank here charges around 11-14% annually on personal loans. So, if I take a loan for, say 6 years, that some good amount of extra money that I am going to pay. But if I pay the amount in full instantly when I buy the car, I will be exempted from this extra amount. So, my dear readers, if you know something about finance, please tip me on how exactly I should take the decision. What are the points that I should consider while taking such financial decisions. Thanks.

I have heard of many people saying that they got calls from people who sound like credit card frauds. I thought it was only some kind story and never paid any attention to them… until yesterday when I got one too!

Well, here was the call:
Office Phone rings.
Me: Hello
Lady: (In a very pleasant voice) Am I Taking to Mr. Kumar?
Me: Yes, that would be me.
Lady: I am calling from HSBC bank credit card security branch. We have just detected an unauthorised credit card purchase from your HSBC card. It’s actually an online purchase. Did you shop online in the last couple of days Mr. Kumar?
Me: Yeah I did, but excuse me, did you said you are from HSBC Bank?
Lady: Yes Sir.
Me: But I don’t have any account in HSBC, neither I have a HSBC card in my name.
Lady: You don’t have a HSBC card? which credit do you have?
Me: Hello, what was your name again?
Lady: Thank you Sir.
Me: Hello, Hello, Hello…

The Lady with the nice voice hangs up, leaving me wondering. Was that a credit card fraud that just happened? Well, I guess it was! So people, beware. These credit card frauds do happen and we better be aware of these people before they do hit you too.

Some points that you can note here are:

  1. Credit card companies will never ask for your password or PIN, atleast not over the phone!
  2. Credit card companies will never call you up to ask for your personal information.
  3. Better have online access to your card account so that you can view all transactions anytime through the internet.
  4. Blah blah blah…

So, avaoid frauds and stay happy!
