After the controversial remark over Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi, head of noted Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Mohammad Vastanvi has decided on Tuesday to relinquish his post next months after series of protests by the Muslim communities all over the country.
As per report of the sources, Majilis-e-Shoora (General Council) will be meeting on February 15 and Vastanvi will be resigning on that very day.Speaking to UNI from Deoband on the telephone, Mr Vastanvi said he was more concerned about the prestige of the seminary and maintenance of peace in the campus.
He further told that after the controversial remarks, a gap has been formed between the students and educational environment of the campus has been disturbed. So, he decided to quit from his post of Vice Chancellor of the seminary.Vastanvi has been in the line of fire for his ‘clean chit’ to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots.
Vastanvi, who hails from Surat in Gujarat and was elected V-C on January 10, is has having tough times after he said that Muslims should forget the communal riots of 2002 and move on and that their community did not face discrimination in Chief Minister Narendra Modi”s state.
However, later, Vastanvi took a U turn and told that he never gave clean chit to Modi for his unforgiving act. Following the interview he came under fire from several quarters and a group of teachers and students of the seminary started demanding his resignation.
