Man with the Midas touch was overwhelmed with the response of his wife’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat premiered at Toronto International Film festival. The movie which was shown to a packed hall at Toronto’s Elgin theatre had allured almost everyone and the viewers were spellbound by its characters, its story, and its director.
Aamir Khan was a happy man after the premier and thanked all the people who came for screening of his movie in his blog. Fans of Aamir were waiting after the premier outside the theatre to have a look of their superstar who was later seen dazzling in brown bandh gala suit while he was walking on the red carpet.
It is reported that about 1700 tickets were sold out days before the screening and the people who could not get it were buying the same in black while paying double the amount. It was not only Indians but multi-ethnic people also who were dying to have Aamir Khan’s screening.
Kiran Rao who dedicates her work to Mumbai was very excited about the good response of her directorial debut. Toronto people have acknowledged and applauded her work of art in the form of “Dhobi Ghat”.
Aamir is playing the lead role of a painter in the film. Apart from him Monica Dogra, Prateik Babbar and Kriti Malhotra also star in the film. The film has depicted how the life of four individuals- Arun (a painter), Munna (a washer man), Yasmin (a young married Muslim girl), Shai (banker on a holiday in India) are entwined.
Aamir Khan’s “Dhobi Ghat” is consecutive film after “Peepli Live” earning international recognition. “Peepli Live” was focused on qualms of rural society. And now “Dhobi Ghat” spotlights complexities of city life.
However, Indian fans will have to wait longer as movie is expected to hit Indian screens by February 2011.
