It was in the wee hours of Wednesday morning around 2 am when most of the Delhiites were asleep that a tremor was felt in Delhi which was as a result of 7.4 Richter scale earthquakes in Baluchistan district of Pakistan.

As per report of the sources, tremors were felt in other parts of northern India too. Tremors of the quake were felt in Delhi, Jaipur, Barmer, Ganganagar and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and parts of Haryana. Indian Meteorological department said that the epicentre of the quake was in Southwest Pakistan.

“As soon as the people found their floors shaky, they jolted out of their sleep and ran out of their homes”, says a local resident of Delhi.

As the quake hit the low density province of Pakistan, there have been not many casualties. Till now, death of only one person due to a wall collapse has been reported in India.

A US Geological Service report said the epicentre of the earthquake was located 45 km from Dalbandin in southwest Pakistan. It said the focal depth of the earthquake was 84 km.

According to the IMD, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 74 km from ground level. An IMD official said the area is located at the plate boundary of Indian and Eurasian plates, and plate movement was the reason behind the quake.

Sources have reported that there was lot of panic among the people in the densely populated areas but the things have improved till now.
