International Cricket Council being strict did not change its earlier decision of abandoning Eden Garden as the venue of India England match to be played on 27th February after the BCCI made plea to reconsider its decision.
As per report of the sources, in a mail to BCCI president Shashank Manohar, ICC rejected the request for the extension of fresh deadline to 7th February to make Eden Garden match-fit to host India’s world cup.
In the mail, IC CEO Haroon Lorgat told that the world body was turning down the CAB’s request because their experts were of the view that the unfinished renovation work at the Eden Gardens cannot be completed by February 7.
It was further mentioned that ICC was worried about the logistics of moving the game to another venue.
Even though ICC President Sharad Pawar, earlier in the day, stated in Kanpur that Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium would host the match in case ICC members reject CAB’s plea, there was no firm indication from the BCCI on the issue. Thus, bringing tough times ahead for BCCI over finding new venue.
Among the four matches which were originally scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens, the fate of rest three matches to be played after 27th February will depend on the decision of the ICC’s venue-inspection team which is scheduled to visit the venue on Monday.
But this is for sure that the latest ‘no’ by ICC is the ultimate humiliation for CAB bosses who were really trying hard to turn Eden Gardens into a veritable paradise.
