Gone are the days when Orkut and Yahoo were dominating the social networking sites in India as Face book has reportedly overtaken the first position and shadowed the popularity of Orkut and Yahoo as social networking sites.

As per statistical survey report of the comScore, Face book has beaten its competitor and extended its fame in India also with around 20.9 million users hitting it in the month of July 2010.India was amongst one of the few countries where Orkut had retained something to boast off but the situation seems critical as more people have been allured to log into Face book.

Face book saw an upsurge in the number of users to 179 percent in comparison to last year’s number of users and this helped it to grab the number one position in the country. However, Google saw a rise of 16 percent in its growth with 19.9 million users visiting the site in July 2010.Bharatstudent with 4.4 million visitors followed Google along with twitter.com (3.3 million) while Yahoo pulse and Yahoo Buzz allured 3.5 million and 1.8 million visitors respectively.

The survey also declared India to be at the seventh position in the world for social networking with more than 33 million Internet users hitting the social networking sites in the month of July.US, China, Germany, Russia, Brazil and UK are only ahead of India in this list.

comScore Executive Vice President (Asia-Pacific) Will Hodgman said that social networking phenomenon was covering the world like anything and India represents one of the fastest growing markets at the moment.

The most important fact about these statistical reports is this that the numbers of users mentioned are excluding access from Internet cafes or mobile phones and PDAs.
