January 17 has been decided as the day to finalize the Indian squad for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup2011 which will kick-start from 19th of February in the Indian subcontinent by the senior selection panel in Chennai.
Earlier, selection panel head Krishnamachari Srikkanth had picked up 30 probables for the world cup 2011 and it was told that the list will be pruned and 15 members will be selected from that list seeing the performance of the players as per norms and regulations of ICC in the tournament.
Indian Cricket Board secretary N. Srinivasan confirmed it in a statement that the senior selection committee will meet on Monday to select the Indian team for the World Cup.
Along with India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will also host matches of the mega event that will continue from 19th February to April 2. India is placed in Group B in the preliminary phase along with co-hosts Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, Ireland and Netherlands. The first match of the series will be played between India and Bangladesh on 19th at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The list to pruned includes- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, S. Sreesanth, Munaf Patel, Ishant Sharma, Vinay Kumar, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Sourav Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Parthiv Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Cheteshwar Pujara, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar.
