First hockey, now weightlifting: Karnam Malleswari blows the whistle

The pride of the games in India may come down with inglorious acts of the trainers cum coach. People have not yet recovered from the hockey allegations that weightlifting also saw a cheap and morally degraded act of ravaging the modesty of women.

Immediately after the allegation of sexual harassment on junior lifters by SAI coach Ramesh Malhotra by Olympic bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari, Indian Weightlifting Federation on Saturday suspended him. It is incredulous that the same person was recommended by the IWF for Dronacharya Award for last two years.

Malleswari alleged that a SAI coach has been sexually harassing junior lifters for more than a decade now.

IWF Secretary General said that a committee comprising of three members is going to be established. It will do the initial probe and will submit a report within seven days. The committee will be headed by IWF vice President Kumbasi Subramanya with veteran coach Pal Singh Sandhu and IWF joint secretary Madan Lal Salvi as other members

He further said that’we have immediately suspended malhotra and dismissed him from his job with Commonwealth core group weightlifters at Bangalore SAI centre’.

Yadav also questioned over Malleswari integrity and rebuked about her late reaction to the case if it were continuing from decade. The federation also denied any allegations made by Malleswari over sexual harassment issue during their earlier meetings held in February in Udaipur.

Yadav also asserted that the committee will be looking into the past records of the coach and whether there have been complaints of sexual harassment made by anybody, including players, against coaches or officials.
