After celebrating the Christmas Eve blissfully, the national capital, Delhi woke up to a freezing morning (Sunday) totally engulfed in fog. The temperature of the national capital has gone down by 4 degree from the normal temperature. Due to heavy fog the visibility has gone nearly zero, which resulted the delay in flights.
As per report of sources, the heavy fog has caused a chaotic situation at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The report further added that because of rising invisibility one international and 12 domestic flights had been diverted to Jaipur, Lucknow and Ahmedabad airports.
Anupam Chawla, a passenger said to media that they were planning to spend their Christmas holydays in Dehradun but the flight had been cancelled. He further added that he did not know he should have gone back home or booked a ticket for another flight.
R K Jenamai, the Director in-charge in IGIA met unit said that they were facing a very severe situation of dense fog and there were no active system to improve the situation. He further added that the dense fog would continue existing for next 3-4 days.
B P Yadav, the Director of Weather forecast with the Meteorological Department said that the high humidity level and change in direction of wind causing the dense fog. He further added that it would continue for next 2-3 days.
Because of dense fog six flights between Delhi –Mumbai-Delhi have been cancelled and couple of flight have been diverted.
