G P Birla passes away at 87

GP Birla, one of the most well-known and respected Indian industrialist died on 6th of march 2010. He was 87. He is survived by wife Nirmala, son CK Birla and daughter Lekha Poddar. He is the son of late B M Birla was his father who founded the GP-CK Birla group.

GP Birla was the head of the GP-CK Birla group of companies that owns Orient Paper & Industries Ltd. and Hindustan Motors Ltd.Apart from Hindustan Motors, other prominent companies of the group include Hyderabad Industries Ltd, Orient Paper & Industries Ltd.AVTEC Ltd, National Engineering Industries Ltd, Birlasoft Ltd, Indian Smelting & Refining Co. Ltd, Nigeria Engineering Works Ltd, Nigeria, and Pan African Paper Mills (EA) Ltd, Kenya. In Kolkata, the group also manages two major health-care facilities; BM Birla Heart Research Center and Calcutta Medical Research Institute.

Birla’s last rites would be performed in Kolkata on Saturday.
