Dubai, Jan 10 (IBNS) England’s Charlotte Edwards has risen up the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Player Rankings for batters to third place despite her side losing the recently completed three-match ODI series in Australia.
Edwards scored a total of 188 runs in the series, but her efforts with the bat were in vain as England lost the series 2-1.
Meanwhile Australia’s all-rounder Lisa Sthalekar has climbed two places in the batting rankings to occupy sixth place after a positive performance. The 31-year-old has also risen to third in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Player Rankings for bowlers while maintaining her second spot in the all-rounder rankings. Australia’s Shelley Nitschke, the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2010, has maintained her second place position in the batter rankings.
Outside of the top 10, Australia’s Leah Poulton has risen five places to break into the top 20, a position which is her highest ranking to date. Outside of the top 20, England’s Heather Knight has climbed an impressive 23 places to reach 31st position.
Two other Australians on the move in the batters’ rankings are Victorian duo Rachael Haynes (33) and Jess Cameron (35) while 18-year-old Meg Lanning, who scored 104 not out in her second ODI, enters the rankings in 60th place.
West Indies Stafanie Taylor (fourth), along with table topper India’s Mithali Raj, will be hoping that some good performances will help to improve their status in the rankings.
In the bowling rankings, Sthalekar’s rise to third comes after the off-spinning all-rounder claimed five wickets during her side’s victorious series over England in Perth. England’s Laura Marsh has climbed back up to fourth place in the rankings after the 24-year-old claimed six wickets in the series.
Outside of the top 20, Australia’s Rene Farrell has risen to 21st, her highest ranking to date, while young English bowler Danielle Hazell has shot up 13 places to occupy 36th, also her highest ranking to date.
The table is currently topped by India’s Jhulan Goswami with Nitschke in second place. Goswami will want a strong series with the ball in order to secure her position further while Rumeli Dhar (fifth) will be hoping to put pressure on those above her.
West Indies duo Taylor (16) and Anisa Mohammed (23) will also be hoping that some key wickets will help them rise up the rankings.
The Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Women’s Player Rankings for all-rounders see no change in its leader, Nitschke, with Sthalekar in second and Taylor in third.
