With the advent of ICC Test ranking on Sunday, Indian supporters went disappointed when they observed the probability of India losing its first rank in Test ranking if they dared to lose this ongoing series against Sri Lanka either by 2-0 or 3-0.
The batsmen ranking list also saw many ups and downs. Sachin Tendulkar managed to gain two places to acquire the sixth position but the opener Indian batsmen who had once put himself at top position slipped five positions down the ladder at ninth in the latest ICC Test ranking for Batsmen.
In the ongoing series, Gambhir’s poor form is continuing and he got out in the very first over of both the innings in the first Test. Not only Gambhir, entire batsmen set were succumbed to the bowling attack of M & M (Malinga and Muralitharan precisely).Indian bowlers also could not prove themselves and once again bowling has become the loose end at present.
“We need to take twenty wickets to win a match. Bowlers are ought to prove themselves”, said a fan.
It was Virendar Sehwag only who had a different perceptions for M & M and he went after them with a ton .This century helped him continue his upward surge as he retains his number 1 test ranking batsmen position with 866 points. However, Tendulkar and Gambhir have 795 points and 773 points respectively.
Among other Indians to figure in the top-20 list, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid went down one step each to sit at the 14th and 18th place respectively.
In bowling, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer retained their previous rank while Dale Steyn topped the list.
In team ranking India with 124 points is followed by South Africa(120 points), Sri Lanka(119) and Australia116).
