IIT Bombay gets invitation for setting up a campus in New York

The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) has recently got invitation from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to submit a proposal to establish its extension campus for applied science course in the Big Apple.

As per report of the sources, IITB has been invited to set up a premier science and research facility campus in the City of New York. The sources informed that the deadline for the submitting of the unique proposal was March 16th.

It has been reported that a committee at IITB was firming up the institutes’ note, which would be sent to the hosting committee by April. The report further informed that the host city was supposed to provide land and also make a capital contribution.

Speaking to the media persons, Mr Subhasis Chaudhuri, Dean International Relation IITB, said that the proposal was at a rather nascent stage. Mr Chaudhuri further added that they were considering the proposal very seriously.

On the other hand, Mr Devagan Khakhar, the Director of IITB, informed that his team was working on a feasibility plan.

The New York Mayor Mr Michael Bloomberg said that the New York City was committed to find the right partner and provide support needed to set up such a facility because research in the fields of engineering, science and technology was creating the next generation of global business innovations that would propel their economy forward. Mr Bloomberg further added that the impact of the invitation would be extraordinary.
