Income Tax raid, on over 60 places across the nation

Oct 29 (FLS): On Thursday , Department of Income Tax raided on over 60 places simultaneously. The raid was especially made on the premises of the firms across the nation to find out the alleged embezzlement of contract funds.

It has been reported that the raid was made by the teams of about 300 I-T Sherlock Holmes simultaneously in various cities from early morning on Thursday. The raid was done, mainly focusing on four contractors involved by CWG organising committee for embellishment and landscaping of the venues.

Sources said that over 60 premises in different cities, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jamshedpur and Kolkata, were raided and lot of documents associated with contracts and sub-contracts in connection with the Game were seized.

Income Tax officials have also reported that tax returns of those firms were also being investigated by the department. Reiterating the main concern of probe they added that the investigation would be specifically done into the contracts granted by the Organising committee and the role of its officials and contractors besides charges of bribing.

On October 19 a same kind of investigation had been done on four high standing consortia. The investigation operation included Sudhanshu Mittal, a BJP member, who was in charge of contracts of worth Rs 700 crore. Mr Mittal is considered to be a close ally of former BJP President Rajnath singh and late party leader Pramod Mahajan.

Reportedly, the first consortium bagged the contracts of worth Rs 230 crore and other three were granted contracts of worth Rs 500 crore.
