Five member selection panel headed by Srikkanth announced Indian squad of final 15 who will be playing for India in the World Cup 2011 today on Monday after a meeting that lasted for 1 and half hour in Chennai.
The selectors have emphasized on the presence of three spinners in comparison to pacer as a result Sreesanth could not make his name in the last. So was Rohit Sharma omitted from the India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming cricket World Cup to be held in the sub-continent from February 19.
Young spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who can also do some work with bat along with Piyush Chawla were named in the squad to represent India under the captainship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The lists of 30 probable were pruned to half and no big star is left out of the final squad for the mega-event starting February 19.
Along with the expected top seven of the Indian batting order which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan is also taken to reserve the all-rounder’s berth.
The pace bowling department includes four premium bowlers led by inspirational Zaheer Khan. Other three includes Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar. However, selectors were left unimpressed by the performance of Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma.
In spin, Harbhajan Singh along with Ashwin and Piyush Chawla will take care of batsmen on Indian pitch.
