The second test match played by India against South Africa saw the great Indian comeback after losing the first test at Centurion. The visitors made amend for all their mistakes in the first test by defeating Proteas by 87 runs and thus levelling the series 1-1 on the 4th day of the match.
After setting a healthy target of 303 runs in the second inning, the Indian bowlers made South Africa toil for every run especially on the fourth day. The disciplined bowling performance from the visitors helped India take wicket regularly and thus dismissed the hosts for 215 in 72.3 overs just an hour after the lunch break.
With this win, India has recorded only their second Test win on the soil of South Africa. Though the fortune kept fluctuating from one team to other but eventually it was India who got it tilted in their favour.
Though India were on the wrong end of both tosses at Centurion and here in Durban, but have won in commanding fashion at Kingsmead. Kallis’ wicket today was key, and it took an absolute snorter from Sreesanth to remove the great man. And the man who set it all up, Zaheer Khan with six wickets in the match cannot be forgotten. And not to forget a gem from VVS Laxman, who made 96 when the next highest score in the game was 39.
VVS Laxman for his splendid performance with bat got ‘Man of the Match award’.
The two teams will now travel to Cape Town for the third and final Test starting on Sunday.
Last man Lonwabo Tsotsobe did not survive long as he was run out by Pujara and that moment saw ecstatic Indian and fans hailing their team’s name.
