Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni grabbed his breathe back when Raina slammed the bowl of Welegedara for a six and brought a five wicket win for India as he continued to avert the breaking of his record of not loosing a single test after being capped as a captain. India played brilliantly with extra-ordinary effort from Laxman who frustrated the Sri Lankan bowler and helped India achieve the target of 256 without any toil.

Earlier, India began the fifth day with Sachin Tendulkar and night watchman Ishant Sharma at the score of 53 for the loss of three crucial wickets of Virendra Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and Murali Vijay. Ishant Sharma could not resist longer the Sri Lankan attack and he departed at merely 4 runs leaving India at 62-4.Early wicket for the Sri Lankan team had boosted their confidence and they were looking at sure shot victory. However, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman changed the course of the match as they stuck to the pitch sharing 109 runs.

Tendulkar became the fifth victim of Randiv at the score of 54 runs when India was on 171. Randiv troubled almost every batsman on the pitch and all the Indian five wickets went into his kitty. He bowled 29 overs for his five wickets by conceding just 82 runs. He took 9 wickets in this test match but unfortunately could not bring himself enjoying moment as it did not let them win. For the sixth wicket, Raina and Laxman added unbeaten 87 runs.

VVS Laxman was awarded ‘Man of the Match’ for his spectacular 16th hundred in the Test career and Virendra Sehwag grabbed ‘Man of the Series’ for his overall performance. The three match Test series was drawn with the Micromax Cup being shared by both the Indian and Sri Lankan captains.
