The second Test match almost tried hard to copy the first Test as the first day of the match saw the downfall of Indian batsmen delighting the South African bowlers especially Steyn who struck four times before the play was called off just after 56 overs as bad light interrupted the day’s play.
Earlier today, after winning the toss, the home team decided to bowl first and invited the visitors to bat first on the damp wicket of Durban. Hardly 10 overs had passed that the Indian batsmen miseries were exposed by African bowlers and India lost wickets at regular interval.
Steyn made most of bowling on a grassy, moist wicket by taking four for 36 in 14 overs, while left-arm pacer Lonwabo Tsotsobe claimed two for 40 in 11 overs.
Virendra Sehwag was the first to go by edging the ball in the hands of Kallis at second slip. Murali Vijay lived a charmed life and was dropped twice before he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher for 19.
Next was Sachin Tendulkar who departed on the cheap score of 13 by Tsotobe. VVS Laxman showed some resistance but could capitalize on his 38. Cheteshwar Pujara played a reckless shot against Tsotsobe only to top edge it and was caught behind the wicket for 19.
Earlier, the match started one hour late due to rain interruption.
India had put on board a total of 183 for the loss of six wickets before the match was interrupted by bad light and rain.
