Miffed by the sabotage, accidents and shutdowns, the Indian Railways has devised a new way to overcome the shutting of the trains in the wee hours of each day resulting in huge loss to the government. Government has come up with the idea of introduction of GPS system in the train so as to ensure their undisturbed service.

The Global positioning system (GPS) is expected to be installed in all the trains in the coming next two years which will put a check on the increasing number of train accidents that has brought worry on the face of the Railway Ministry. This GPS system keeps the track of the train in all conditions 24 hour a day and is controlled by the satellite navigation.

“Introduction of GPS system is the need of hour for the Railways and all the trains will be provided with this technical device within a period of two years,” Banerjee reported to the Rajya Sabha in its Question Hour session.

She also showed her worry about the Maoists attack on the Railways in recent months and reported that Railways had to suffer Rs. 1000 crores loss as Maoists attacks have disrupted altogether 217 movements of the train recently.

Focusing on this sensitive matter, she told that Maoists bandhs has led to 416 cancellations of the trains while 70 mail trains have been affected by this. Listing measures to prevent sabotage of trains, she said trains are escorted by RPF and GRP personnel at vulnerable sections.

In order to control accidents GPS system installation has been focused as unmanned signals will operate the signals and reduce the perils.
