Although the recent mission by Indian Space Research organization (ISRO) to launch the GSAT-5P communication satellite onboard home-grown GSLV-F06 rocket failed but it could not lessen the zeal of ISRO; as ISRO is planning to launch three major satellites by April 2011.
As per report of sources, Resourcesat-2, Youthsat and X-sat, are the three satellites to be launched this year. The report further added that X-sat was the Singapore’s first home-grown satellite, which would be launched by ISRO, Youthsat was the satellite developed with the help Russia and Resourcesat-2 was an advanced remote sensing satellite.
At a meet organised by Indian Institute of Space Science and technology (IIST) and Optical Society of India (OSI), Mr K Radhakrishnan, the Chairman of ISRO, informed that satellites would be launched on board PSLV C-16 in February, March and April. Mr Radhakrishnan further added that Resourcesat-2 was being launched for the purpose to replace Resourcesat-1 which was launched in 2003 to provide data connectivity.
Mr Radhakrishnan informed that ‘Youthstat’ would carry the payload developed by students of Moscow University.
While talking about the works going on he said that PSLV-C16 vehicle had already been assembled at the space port at Sriharikota, on the other side Resourcesat-2 and Youthstat were getting ready for shipment to SHAR from the ISRO’s centres. He further informed that both the satellites carried a host of advanced optical payload.
While ending his address Mr Radhakrishnan said that the efforts of Indian space technology had been recognised and developed countries like Russia, France and USA were keen to be partner with India on several fronts in space.
