After a long time invested by the government, for the consideration on the illegal mining allegation on powerful mining brass Reddy brothers, two of whom are ministers in the state cabinet, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa announced ban on Iron Ore export on Thursday asserting that this was the only choice he was left with to stop the illegal mining.
According to norms, ban will prohibit the export of iron ore minerals from all the 10 ports in Karnataka except the Mangalore which is controlled by the central government. Road transport has also been banned the permit to transport the ore consignment through roads to another state ports.
Earlier, Congress alleged Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa as an accomplice in this illegal mining and claimed that he is attempting to save the Reddy brothers, who are accused of illegal mining, at the cost of honest businessmen.
In order to wake the slumbering state government and demanding the establishment of CBI probe to look into the illegal mining case the Congress began the march on July 25 and will reach Bellary on Aug 9 for a rally. The party leaders and workers are walking 20 kms a day to cover the 320 kms in 16 days.
“This is one of the biggest scam of the decade or rather century involving around up to Rs. 60,000 crores”, said a congress official.
Earlier, Yeddyurappa had rejected the congress plea for installing CBI probe into this matter by asserting that recently CBI is not credible .and it will only delay the probe. “Infact, the integrity of CBI has been questioned many a times recently”, he further added.
However, Reddy brothers have told these charges baseless and they pleaded for their innocence.
