Lata Mangeshkar celebrates her 81st birthday

Sept 29 (FLS): Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar turned 81 on Tuesday and was greeted both by family members and fans for her birthday. In an interview with PTI, Lata told that she does not celebrate her birthday but just perform Puja and the day of her birthday is just any other day for her.

Lata has lent her voice to all form of songs for more than seven decades and went on to record songs for over 1,000 Bollywood movies and has sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages. The singer held the Guinness world records for having recorded the most songs in the world from 1974 to 1991.

Younger sister Asha Bhonsle who has also earned great name in the field of singing wished Lata happy birthday on twitter and said that Lata was her favourite female singer and showed sadness over not attending her birthday as she was busy in Hong Kong.

Other than her sister, Madhu Bhandarkar, who has collaborated with the singer in films like Jail and Page 3, was among the first to wish the acclaimed singer. “Wishing u Lata Didi many happy returns of the day….May god bless u with good health..love.., nd peace (sic),” Bhandarkar tweeted.

Lata also tweeted on the eve of her birthday in which she wrote that she was thankful to the people for their greetings. She further wrote that she felt fortunate that her birthday fell close to two of her favourite people- freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and filmmaker Yash Chopra. She wished her best wishes to Yash Chopra on his birthday.

Well, Lata is still in flow and is excited about her soon to be released duet with Shehanshah-e-Ghazal Mehdi Hasan.
