Honour killing these days has become the greatest stigma of the Indian society. In the name of this dehumanizing behavior, women are forced to strip in public and people marrying in other castes are being expelled from the villages at the decision of Khap (Caste) Panchayat. P Chidambaram, Home Minister of India came strongly against this menace in the Lok Sabha today, August 5.
Chidambaram assured the people that a law fighting against this stigma of our society in the name of caste and creeds are being framed as a draft committee consisting of a group of ministers had already been installed to consider a draft bill soon. He said that the draft bill is likely to hit Parliament in this session shortly.
He was obnoxious about the people’s attitude leading to the murder of innocent people in the name of caste. He further said that these cases were bringing dishonor to the families, the community and the country.
Speaker Meira Kumar also criticized boldly to this act of the people and said that those who should have loved the young ones of their family, they are only murdering their dear ones. That is disgusting!
Chidambaram has made it clear that once the law was made and implemented; people should abide by them failing to which will lead to severe punishment. He also said that “the government is actively considering a proposal to amend the existing law or to enact a separate law” to tackle such crimes.
He also condemned the instances of murder of young couple due to inter- caste marriage and promised to come with the best possible solution to overthrow this. Even RJD minister wanted the government to hold a meeting on these sensitive caste involving crimes.
