Continuous and rigorous demands made by congress of the UP state to step down the BSP MLA who has been accused for rape of a minor girl belonging to a backward community proved alarming for the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati who on Sunday ordered the suspension of party legislator Purshottam Narain Dwivedi.
As per report of the sources, Chief Minister told media on Saturday night that the suspension would remain in force during the CID probe ordered by the chief minister. She further told that if Dwivedi found guilty in CB-CID investigation then he will be dismissed from the party and will be sent to jail.
One of the party spokesperson said that Dwivedi would be suspended until CB-CID inquiry is on.
Sources have reported that the announcement of the suspension came amidst strident criticism of the ruling party by opposition leaders, who accused Mayawati of “shielding” the rapist of a minor girl belonging to a backward community.
Though Purushottam Narain pleaded for innocence, the victim who is presently lodged in the district jail in a theft case, has alleged that she was raped at the house of the BSP MLA who got her framed in a case of theft earlier this month.
The girl was arrested for stealing a mobile phone, Rs 5,000 and a bag from the house of Dwivedi, where she stayed from December 8 to 12.
