Finally it is time for an end of magnificent 18 years long innings of the Srilankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. Muralitharan will retire from International cricket after the first Test series which is supposed to begin from 18th July. The last test match will be played by Muralitharan against India at Galle. He has a record of maximum wicket taking in Test s and One Day Internationals.

Though Muttiah Muralitharan will no more be there for any other Tests or ODIs but he may be playing World Cup in the coming year on demand of Sri Lanka.

37 years old Muralitharan was one of the most beneficial spinners of the Cricket team of Srilanka. He was the member of the team for last 18 years. During his cricket career of 18 years, he has taken 792 wickets in 132 Tests and 515 wickets in 337 ODIs.

He had however said that he will be playing T20 cricket for some more years

Muralitharan had aimed to achieve the record of being the first bowler to take 1000 wickets in Test series. This decision of retirement will be an end to his dream.  He said that the reason behind his unfulfilled dream is that nowadays Test matches have become less in numbers and Srilanka gets chances to play very few Test matches.

He was made a part of the team during the 1992-93 seasons.
