NDFB rebel killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati, Oct 13 (IBNS) : A hardcore rebel of anti talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was killed in an encounter while an abducted businessman was traced in Assam’s Udalguri district on Wednesday, police said.

The encounter took place at Dauria center near Rowta forest reserve under Majbat police station along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border around 4:50 pm, when police launched a massive operation to trace an abducted businessman, at least 12 members group of the
outfit open fire on security forces and bullets were exchanged.

”We had got a specific information that a businessman was kidnapped by NDFB rebels and launched a search operation to trace the abducted person leading to an encounter along the border in which one rebel was killed on spot,” Udalguri district Additional SP Satyajit Nath said.

”During the gunbattle, the rebel group fled from the encounter spot to forest reserve but we had traced the abducted person safely,” he added.

Police seized a pistol, ammunition, cash and demand letters from the slain militant, who was yet to be identified.
