Despite of their aggressive start with bowling on Day 2, Pakistan could not restore its form as the dusk glistened for England. The Pakistan’s batting line up collapsed early today for 147 for the loss of nine wickets as every batsmen succumbed to the strategic and fierce bowling of birthday boy Anderson and Steve Finn.
The day had started bright for Pakistan as its seamers knocked the England batsmen .Despite of making 331 runs for the loss of four wickets on the first day, Pakistani bowlers overtook the charge from them and sent every batsman back to pavilion within a short tenure. England could add only 23 runs today for the loss of remaining six wickets.
It was Md. Asif who took the advantage of the overcast condition on day 2. He took four wickets today in quick succession and gave jolt to the England. All together he took five wickets in this inning by conceding 77 runs only.
Immediately after bowling out England Pakistan openers took the guard and they were jolted by England’s bowling .Pakistan’s wicket were falling like autumn leaves and they lost five wickets for only 45 runs. But Pakistan achieved some respite as Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Aamer batted sensibly and kept scoreboard moving. Pakistan was on 105 when Shoaib Malik gave a catch to Strauss on Anderson’s ball relinquishing his 58 run partnership with Aamer. Three runs later Aamer’s resistance ended when he became the fifth prey of Anderson.
Anderson marked his birthday with five wicket haul by conceding only 49 runs. Well done birthday boy!
Umar Gul played some lofty shots and helped Pakistan to get near the target that could save it from follow-on. Pakistan still requires 8 runs to avoid follow-on with one wicket intact.
