Parsi New Year greetings from the PM

It’s Parsis New Year which is being celebrated in Ahmadabad with pomp and splendor. Parsis growing rapidly in numbers have now become an inseparable part of the state and are all geared up for the celebration of their New Year.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has extended his heartiest greetings to the Parsis on their celebration day and wished them luck for this coming year. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Singh Modi and Gujarat governor Dr. Kamala Beniwal have also sent greetings to the community of their state with a message that they have great pleasure in extending heartiest greetings to all the citizens on the joyous occasion of the Parsis New Year and it reminded them of the multi-cultural India.

Parsis New year is called Navroz in local language is marked as a festival dedicated to renewal and righteousness and in the celebrations people adhere to the principles Prophet Zarathustra’s associated to human values and respect for the environment.

Navroz is celebrated in a very lively manner every year. People decorate their homes, feast on special dishes with pulao as a part of the standard fare of the day and celebrate Pateti.On this day, people start their day by visiting temple, meeting and entertaining relatives all day with delicious dishes.

Parsis in India are mostly concentrated in the Mumbai and Gujarat region and they form 0.2 percent of total Indian population. They are believed to be migrated to India from Persia (Iran) more than a thousand years ago.
