Oct 21 (FLS): UPA President Sonia Gandhi finally felt the need of addressing the anger of the Kashmiri youths and told that their legitimate aspirations will be respected and some steps will be taken by the government that will certainly restore peace back in the valleys. However, she reiterated the fact that Kashmir is an integral part of India and it has always been a special place in their polity.
While addressing to Press, she told that restoring peace in the region is of paramount importance and this could be done by addressing the Kashmiri youth. Party President also hoped that the dialogue and policy initiatives announced by the government will be successful in ending the present unrest in the state.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had made a remark in the assembly that the state of Kashmir had acceded to India and was not merged with it. This statement had created a controversy and the opposition party condemned strongly against such irrelevant remark and demanded the resignation of the chief minister.
Well, it seems that Congress which is an alliance partner of Abdullah’s party National conference in the state, in order to distance it from such remarks made statement that the state was an integral part of the country and will remain so.
Gandhi also supported the steps and initiatives taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to bring the situation in order. She also said that such type of situation had arisen in the state after many years of stability and successful democratic elections in the state.
