Photon Plus Review & Network Coverage Quality

Photon Plus Review,  from network coverage quality to internet Speed: I have taken a Tata Photon Plus EVDO card last month and here is my review on the network quality, actual speed and the customer service. Actually, I have been wanting to write a review but I thought I should wait for at least a month.

But first, before you read any further, I would suggest you to read an article about my experience with Tata Photon Plus customer service. Yes, their customer service s*cks and I really wish they prove me wrong.

Now let us talk about the network quality and actual internet speed. As per my experience in JP Nagar Bangalore, the quality of Tata Indicom Network coverage is good over here. The dialer that comes with the Photon Plus connects very quickly and the network is set up almost instantly every time. First time when I saw that, I thought “WOW” and I was really excited about surfing the internet with a 2Mbps connection. But of course that remained only a dream. The Photon plus gave me an average speed of about 25KB/sec download. That is roughly about 256Kbps internet speed I am getting and not the 2Mbps that the Tata Indicom is advertising on every single road-side banner space these days. So I called up their customer service and asked what was happening and I was told that the speed depends on the Tata EVDO network which they are currently optimizing. The next I did was took the Photon Plus to Jayanagar 4th Block and tried it there in a friend’s house. There also same thing. We got a speed of about about 20-25KB/Sec download.

So the best way to check the actual performance of a Tata Photon Plus is to call their customer service and ask them to send an executive with a photon plus demo kit. Let them come to your house and give you a SPEED DEMO. If the Tata EVDO coverage is good, the speed will be good and you can buy the device. Otherwise it’s your choice. I am saying this because I have heard some people saying that they are getting good speed with the Photon Plus and maybe that is true in some regions since the speed completely depends on the network coverage. So, better test it before buying, afterall it’s your money.

  Well, I contact TATA local office for a Demo. They were supposed to send an agent yesterday for a demo. I waited the whole day, however, no one reached at my place. Is this a customer service? If here is a start, I am afraid where would be the end…. !!!

  I have to discuss about few reviews that are available online with either of their executives. Hope they reach me soon

  Is Tata is cheating people thru 3.1 mbps Photon + saying upto 3.1 mbps speed. I purchase 3 months before , but I seen the speed only kbps. Never Ever Crossed. I contacted customer care regarding this several times, but everyone is trying to escape and cheat by saying word “UPTO”
  My purpose of buying tata photon+ is in vain .

  I have been using Photon plus for over a month now. The device is pretty easy to use. Instant network access. Hastle free. But till date I have never seen 3.1 Mbps speed. At max it goes goes to 1.5 Mbps. At times it is vero slow.
  I stay in Dum Dum in Kolkata.I have called up their Customer service. They always perform the basic trubleshooting. which does not do much difference. But till date tyey have not sent any Network Engineer to do a home visit. I am not very happy. Their charges are high which i am ready to pay. No unlimited option .So we defnitely expect the performance to be better.

  I have recently purchased Tata Photon Plus USB data card. It claims to have the speed upto 3.1 mbps but the speed i am getting is only 20kbps. Its just frustrating and nothing else. The customer care of Tata, no need to say they do not pick the call up untill u get frustrated. every time i make a call to customer care, i have to wait at least 10 minutes.

  Do you think a customer have such a patience to wait for 10-20 minutes just to talk to a customer care.

  Talking to a customer care executive is not less than talking to a Prime Minister or President.

  Hi,

  I have purchased a Tata Photon Plus device on 3rd Sep 2010. Tata Photon Plus claims that this device has the speed up to 3.1 mbps but I did not get speed beyond 10kbps – 20kbps. Also customer care of tata frustrates the consumers a lot. We have to keep waiting for 10-20 mins just to get the call picked up on customer care.

  The issue has not been resolved yet and Tata customer care says it will take 3-4 months to resolve this issue. You people say can you go with this tired, slow and poor service.

  The service has really made me into a deep stress and frustration as I have suffer with a lot of loss of time/work and money just due to Tata Teleservices Ltd. Do you also know Tata teleservices made many consumers of our great ndia in deep stress and frustation just because of its worst service in India.

  We trust Tata because its an India company but it is breaking Indians trust. We should protest against it.

  JAAGO GRAAHAK JAAGO!!!

  Last but not least, never make a mistake of buying Tata Photon Plus!!!

  TATA PHOTON PLUS LOOTING CUSTOMERS

  I bought tata photon plus from chandigarh on 29.07.2010 I was told by the customer care that I would be given 200 Rs discount for 12 months on purchase of tata photon plus on my postpaid bill but when I purchased I was told that this offer is not applicable in chandigarh. Had I been told that before buying I would not have purchased tata photon connection.
  Not only that when I got my second month bill i.e of September my bill was inflated by 384 Rs under the name HSIA usage charge ,my bill was supposed to be 950 as I have opted for 5gb plan for Rs 950 and I have used only 3 gb but I was charged 1474 Rs . I cant understand why they are looting customers. When I analyzed my bill I found that my 1st bill was also inflated by 200 Rs , again in the name of HSIA usage name ,when I called up the customer care the response was also not very positive I was supposed to get the refund of total 384+200 = 584 but was given only 500 Rs refund that too after calling them thrice and explaining them the tedious details of the bill .I was told by the customer care representative that it is not under his control to refund more than 500 Rs Have I not looked upon my 2nd bill they would continue charging and inflating my bill . I feel that there are many such innocent customers who are already in trap and are not aware of over billing .This post is to AWARE the TATA PHOTON PLUS customers to get aware of the over billing and fraud ness of tata photon billing and business strategy to loot INDIANS.

  I am experiencing too much slowness on the Tata Photon Plus connection now a days . I have complainted this to customer care and was asked to run few commands on clearing the Temporary files . But the is issue is still not solved . More than solving my problem , the person was trying to justify the slowness by collecting different causes .

  Even though I am supposed to get 3.1 MBPS ( that I have never got ) , I am just getting an average of 25 Kbps and frequently gets disconnected . I am not even feeling like I am using a broadband connection even after paying this much high rental .

  Its been only 4 days i have been using tata photon plus service and I am really frustrated. I just want to return this whole photon plus kit to them.. Can anyone tell me, whether it is possible.. Before this I was using Reliance broadband service and they said it will give 400Kbps speed and it was working always better than this. But after paying so much money and getting this photon plus to get the high speed internet “UPTO 3.1 Mbps” is just a joke… I am really frustrated with the speed.. Its less than 250kbps..

  Never ever buy this product…

  and if any one knows that how can I return this tata photon.. Please let me know..

  I agree to all….Now a days Tata Photon speed is worse even than internet connection of Reliance Mobile 1X (Not talking about Reliance Broadband). My friends are using Reliance Broadband and they are satisfies,, but my Tata Photon is headache for me now due to very slow speed and frequent disconnections.

  Last month I was trying to use atleast 5GB data but could reach 1.5GB only due to its bad connections & service.

  Please never buy Tata Photon for god sake..

  The only thing Tata Indicom is good about is making tall claims.
  I have been using photon plus for more than a month now and i am very frustrated with the connectivity (the speed).
  I do not want the full 3.1 mbps thats proudly displayed all over by tata indicom. I just want to browse and download at a reasonable speed and thats all i ask for. Going through the posts, i see that the service is bad all over. No one has nothing good to tell about the service. From what i can see, there aren’t enough towers to support all the connections thats being issued. I am not sure if the people concerned will see this but if u do, please do something about this for god’s sake before you lose customers.

  Hi All,

  Please do not subscribe to Tata Photon Plus connection. The speed is very poor (only 200 to 300 kbps) compared to the advertised speed 3.1 mbps. If you call customer care they talks about the [COLOR="Red"]upto[/COLOR] word in the advertisement. I have taken this connection one month back at hyderabad and I am completely frustrated.

  Hi all I am Ashutosh from delhi…. i have used several internet connections in last few years…. first i used tata landline connection… which worked average… but due to billing issues i discontinued and switched to Reliance broadband wireline connection….. which worked awesome and now i regret to discontinue that connection.. because i heard about 4g technology of TIKONA broadband… which s*cks with a great deal…

  tikona were giving me surfing speed of 13 kbps to 66 kbps at the cost of 800 RS.. can you believe this.. after that i was so pissed off that i discontinued that one too and didn’t even paid them anything as i had to terminate the connection in within 20 days…

  so after that i used airtel internet connection through my mobile… and as a mobile internet,it worked great.. but due to my work i had a need of a proper internet connection, so again i was in search of a connection which can provide me best services, with whatever amount they want… so i brought a RELIANCE NET CONNECT from one of my friend for few days. and i was impressed again…

  but one of my friend told me that he is using tata photon plus which works great.. and i got confused… then due to documentation problems i purchased Tata Photon Plus….

  and my bad days with internet started again…. can you beleive that in delhi… in such a VIP area (south ex) they are providing speed approx 155-300 kbps…..lolzzzzz man if i would have switched again to reliance wireline… they are providing dedicated speed of 600kbps for rs 500…… and now i am paying 1100rs for 155-300 kbps… but cant do anything as this piece of shit is mine now…..:(

  hi guys its ashutosh again….after reading your comments… i thought to give you some advice to how to shut the mouths of the customer care executives of photon, when they try to give you their lame ‘UPTO’ excuse. Just ask them that what is the minimum speed of photon plus… and i am damn sure that they won’t give you a proper answer…

  We would like to inform you that we have cross checked with our concerned team and found that you are getting the speed of 256kbps which is very good speed as we would like to inform you that we have always advertised that Photon Plus connection provides speed up to 3.1 Mbps downlink. A subscriber under standard test conditions on EVDO REV A technology used by Photon Plus can get speed upto 3.1 Mbps and this has been validated and approved by TRAI. However, the actual connection & browsing speed depends on a variety of factors, including the number of simultaneous Photon Plus users in your area, time of the day, webpage accessed etc. Thus, in most real-world situations, you can expect average speeds of 256-600 Kbps (Kilo bits per Second).
