The firm plan of the Florida church to burn the Muslim religious book ‘Quran’ in order to mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11 event has been condemned by religious leaders all over the World and once again the Muslim World has been brought to rage by US.
However, this disgraceful and disrespectful act of the church has drawn condemnation from top US official and religious leaders, including the White House the State Department and Gen. David H. Petraeus, who admonished on Tuesday that the impact of this event will not be right on Muslim world and this could even endanger US troops.
In the wake of the statement made by the General, Rev. Terry Jones told CNN on Tuesday said that he is “taking the general’s words very serious” and that “we are definitely praying about it.” However, he also told that the plan is firm and is to mark it as the warning to the Islam that “If you attack us, we will attack you.”
This planned burning of the holy book of Islam is criticized by many countries including the non Muslim countries and many fear that it will harm U.S. relations with the Muslim world as NATO troop levels increase in Afghanistan.
Many Muslim countries have already begun the repercussions and in Kabul anti-American protests of “Death to America” and “Death to Obama” were chanted. On Saturday, thousands of Indonesian Muslims demonstrated outside the US embassy in Jakarta and in five other cities to protest against the church’s plans
Said the Rev. Gerald Durley, pastor at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta: “From a Christian perspective, this is not what we stand for. This is a fringe group of individuals.”
The church has been denied a permit to continue with this malicious act but has vowed to proceed with the burning.
