Removal of Dadoji Kondadev statue from Pune has brought in political controversy in the city as Shiv Sena has called for bandh tomorrow in Pune slamming NCP. As per report of the sources, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray told media that his party has called for a bandh tomorrow as a mark of protest.

As per report of the sources, more than 30 members of Shiv Sena were detained today for protesting against its removal. The protest was triggered after the statue of Dadoji Kondadev, who is hailed as the ‘guru’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji, was removed from Pune’s Lal Mahal and placed in a municipal garden near to the Pune Municipal Corporation office.

At this the Maratha community got offended and said that an ignorant section of historians have misinterpreted Dadoji Kondadev as the teacher of Shivaji.

Congress–NCP coalition governs the Corporation currently, and they plan to install a statue of Shivaji’s father, Shahaji Maharaja. In protest, the Sena has called for a bandh on Tuesday.

Violence interrupted in the city to such a level that mob attacked the Mayor’s office and Mayor’s chair was thrown onto the road from a window on the fourth floor.

Uddhav’s estranged cousin, Raj Thackeray, also voiced the objections of his party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

The statue of Dadoji was removed in accordance to the plan of putting the statue of Shivaji’s father, Shahaji Maharaja, to replace the one that was removed today from Lal Mahal which is heart of Pune.
