In the wake of the tussle between the Government and UK listed company Vedanta, Rahul Gandhi visited to address the tribal area of Niyamgiri in Orissa on 26th August for acknowledging their victory as the giant Vedanta group’s proposal to establish bauxite mining project was shown red signal by the environmental ministry.
The point of ponder for the hour is whether the Vedanta group has been barred due to environmental issues or due to mean politics which is creeping in as tribal’s cannot be neglected for their contribution in vote banks.
Well, Rahul Gandhi in his visit addressed the people by saying that it was the voice of the local people that reached to the centre to save their nature and with the rejection of the proposal of setting mining plant it was the win of the local people. He somehow stirred the memory of the people by his earlier promised concept of ‘Government for Aam Aadmi’.
Earlier when he visited Lanjigarh, he said that he was the soldier of the people sitting in Delhi and was ready to do anything for the people. The current visit is also being seen as a Congress effort to make political inroads in a state which it once ruled, but where the BJD has been in power for many years now.
Naveen Patnaik, Orissa chief minister, has clearly shown has displeasure by saying: “I hope politics is not played over this issue. This was the first and the biggest investment in Kalahandi and is needed for the development of the state.”
Well, as a counter reaction BJD is planning to organize such rally at the same place in next week. It seems that Vedanta group is trapped between these government hiccups and with its $5.4 billion investment already made; there will be no question of pulling out.
