Rebel killed in Thoubal, Manipur

Imphal, Oct 15 (IBNS) : An unidentified rebel was killed during an encounter with security forces in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Friday, sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Manipur police commandos and Assam Rifles launched a massive operation at Langathel Chingol area in the district on the wee hours of Friday. A rebel group opened fire on the security forces and bullets were exchanged for half-an-hour, in which a militant was killed on the spot.

Security forces seized one AK 47 rifle, one Chinese hand grenade and 16 rounds of live ammunition from the slain militant.
