Opposition in Kashmir, PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti called on Kashmiris to do the same as Egyptians did as per claims of Chief Minister of State Omar Abdullah.
As per report of the sources, opposition drew a parallel between the response to Egypt protest and the unrest in Kashmir during the summer of 2010. It was reported that opposition said that while people in the Arab country did not face any charges on them during the protests, the scenario is completely different in Kashmir where leaders dubbed agitationists as drugged addicts and militants.
While speaking to media, Mehbooba praised the role of army in Egypt saying that they really worked for protecting their people irrespective of government.
She also told that people of the state were the first to respond to the “global abhorrence of violence” following the 9/11 attacks on the United States but the national leadership did not respond to the “transition”.
Immediately after such comments made by the opposition leader, Omar tweeted that Mehbooba Mufti called for Kashmiris to replicate Egypt and it seemed that she wanted Army rule as well since her party is in Opposition now.
Highlighting the consequences of 2002 elections, Mehbooba also recounted the failure of government in establishing peaceful environment in Kashmir despite of sincere requests of the people.
Opposition leader also reiterated that economic measures needed to be incorporated to address the Kashmir problem.
