The country is celebrating its 62nd Republic day with pomp and splendour but amidst tight security today. The National capital Delhi has become the virtual fortress of security as the military display in Red Fort followed by cultural programmes depicting almost the entire country’s colour has fetched a large number of military men.
The parade and the Republic Day 2011 celebrations goes live online on www.republicday.nic.in through the Doordarshan.
As per report of the sources, nearly 35,000 police personnel have been deployed in the city to keep tight vigil on every movement in the city. To keep the things under control, tight surveillance arrangements like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and helicopters are also keeping hawk’s eyes from the skies of Delhi.
Ensuring air security and for the flypast, the airspace over the capital is closed for an hour from 11.15 AM to 12.15 PM. 100 CCTVs and men with snipers on the top of the high rise buildings have been established to keep a tight vigil on movement between Rajpath and Red Fort.
President Pratibha Patil unfurled the tri colour and took the salute of marching contingents amidst multi-layer of security ring formed in Rajpath.
Patrolling in crowded market areas has been intensified and checking and frisking in Metro, railway stations and bus terminals tightened. Security at the IGI airport was also strengthened in coordination with the CISF.
No vehicles was allowed to ply on the Rajpath from 6 pm on January 25 while vehicular movement was affected on Tilak Marg, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg up to Red Fort from 4 am on Jan 26.
