Mr S M Krishna, the External Affair Minister, urges to Australia to lift the ban on Uranium sale to India with his counterpart Mr Kevin Rudd during the meeting of seventh ministerial dialogue at Melbourne.As per report of sources, Mr Krishna with Vijaya Latha Reddy, Secretary and Indian high commissioner to Australia arrived at the Royal Society of Victoria to attend the seventh Ministerial dialogue with his counterpart Mr Kevin Rudd.
In a interview with a local newspaper The Age, Mr Krishna said that nuclear power was the cleanest form of energy and keeping the situation of climate change in mind it was very important for the developing countries like India to pursue the nuclear power expansion.
He further added that he thought it was necessary that they engaged Australia in a continuing dialogue about lifting the ban imposed on India regarding nuclear sale.
He mentioning the India’s role as a peaceful country Mr Krishna added that in spite of testing nuclear weapon India could be trusted as a responsible nuclear power.
Although India earnestly put its point regarding nuclear sale, Australia continued to insist that Australia would not supply the Uranium to the countries they were not the signatories to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
It has been reported that apart from the matters regarding nuclear supply other bilateral matters like educational ties were also discussed at the meeting. The report also added that racial attacks on Indian students were also discussed.
