Saina Nehwal final match brings 38th Gold medal for India

Oct 14 (FLS): Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal brought another proud moment for India as with her win in the Women’s single Badminton final the host country has won the tight race for second position in the mega event against England. Saina Nehwal final match brings 38th Gold medal for India.

World no. 3 shuttler Saina proved her talent in the CWG as well as she clinched the 38th gold of the nation by beating Malaysia’s Mew Choo Wong in the Women’s singles final at the Commonwealth games on Thursday.

The final was quiet tough as the opposition was not letting off any easy chance for Saina. Two sets went tight .However, in the third set Saina convincingly brought the much awaited victory for her and did not bring down the expectation of the country as she was one of the strongest bet of the day for gold.

The scoreboard of the final read 21-19, 23-21, 21-13.

With this win the shuttler Saina has become the first Indian shuttler to win a Commonwealth gold.

With the 38th gold in the kitty of host, it’s total medal tally has increased to 100 and has regained back the second spot in the tally table by pipping England who had taken 37 golds.

Top seed Saina in the event, who had been in red-hot form this year, winning three titles – India Open, Singapore Super series and Indonesian Super series – rose to the occasion.

Earlier today, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa won the women’s double event to bag the 37th gold for the country. They defeated Malaysian team in two sets only.
