The Sri Lankan captain after winning their first test match against India rebuked the ICC’s ranking norms. He said that ICC ranking rule has never been understood by players, umpires, officials and administrators. They are just blindly getting accustomed to the outdated rules that have practically lost its significance. It is quiet incredulous that despite India lost its recently concluded series in offshore like Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka but still they are holding the no. 1 test playing team tag.
He made a very repugnant statement in regard to ICC that “If rankings can’t be understood by the public, the players, or the administrators, what’s the use of having rankings? If you want rankings, they should count towards playing a Test championship”.
Sangakkara could not help himself to expose the team’s good performance in the recent year and especially against India and Asian subcontinent. He further criticized the ICC protocols bringing his country’s test ranking in limelight and told that “They were ranked No. 2 last year without having won a test series in India, Australia and South Africa which had been lost by them after losing match by India in India”.
Presently, Sri Lankans have managed to secure fourth position on Test ranking list. Talking about the reason for their dismal performance he spoke that “we are working hard on pace and spin and batsmen do feel confident to tackle any bowling attack. Amidst all these our players will stand tall in the coming series”.
He further added “I don’t think we have played enough Test cricket away. Two Test matches here, two Test matches there. I think that’s not good. We need to play Tests regularly”.
